Obituary

Wilma Wang, age 98, of Fosston, MN, formerly Winger, MN, died Monday, January 21, 2019, at Cornerstone Residence in Fosston, MN.

Wilma Lucille LaFayette was born September 26, 1920, in Plummer, MN, the daughter of Albert and Ruth (Thorton) LaFayette.  Her early years were spent in Plummer, where she attended school.  At the young age of 16, Wilma was united in marriage to Philip Solberg on June 17, 1936.  Together they had two sons, Larry and Ronald, and made their home on the farm northwest of Winger, MN.  While living on the farm, Wilma worked at the Sioux Café and Grocery Store, the Hartz Store and was also the bookkeeper for the Winger Co-Op until 1971.  In addition, she picked potatoes in the fall for several years.  Phil died in 1970 and Wilma continued to live on the farm.  In 1972, Wilma married Arthur Wang.  Art and Wilma lived on the farm until 1975, when they moved into Winger.  In 1973, Wilma began working at the Pioneer Care Center in Erskine, MN, and retired 17 years later.  Art died in 1993 and Wilma continued to live in the same home they built in 1975 until she moved to Cornerstone in Fosston.

Wilma was a long-time member of Calvary Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid.  She also taught Sunday School and was actively involved with the quilters group.  Wilma thoroughly enjoyed quilting, knitting and crocheting.  She had a love for all animals, but her heart had a special place for her dog, Buddy.  He was a comforting companion for her for many years.  Playing cards, especially Gin Rummy or Whist was a favorite pastime of Wilma's.  Over the years, she could often be found tending to her yard and gardens, even into her later years.  Wilma also held membership with the Winger Lions Club for many years.

Wilma is survived by one son, Larry Solberg of Winger; special daughter, Patty Brown of Eagan, MN, daughter-in-law, Michelle Solberg of Grand Forks, ND, seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren; step-children: Lindsey (Carol) Wang of Billings, MT; Shirley Mork of Winger, Joanne Stordahl of Fargo, ND, and Ann (Kenny) Stuhaug of Corpus Christi, TX; several step grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  In addition to her husbands, Wilma was preceded in death by a son, Ronald; two daughters-in-law, Marilyn and JoAnne Solberg; two grandsons, step-son, Truman Wang; brother and sister-in-law, Oliver "Bud" and Katherine "Kitty" LaFayette; a nephew, Robert LaFayette; and an infant sister.
