Obituary

Wesley Gustafson, age 60, passed away at his home in Twin Valley, MN, on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, after several years of health issues.

Wesley Gerald Gustafson, the son of Gerald "Jerry" and Joan (Effhauser) Gustafson, was born on December 12, 1963.  He spent his early childhood living in Mound, MN, before his family relocated to Waubun, MN.  Wes attended Waubun Public School until 7th grade.  After moving to Mahnomen, he attended Mahnomen High School, graduating with the class of 1982.  As a teenager, Wes was very active in sports, especially football, and spent many hours working with his dad at Jerry's Body Shop.  When he was 18, Wesley enlisted in the United States Air Force.  He was trained as Turboprop Propulsion Mechanic serving in both the US and Japan. Following his honorable discharge in 1986, Wes returned home to Mahnomen.  He later purchased a house in Twin Valley where he lived for many years.  Wesley spent most of his career laying water lines, working several years with Agassi Underground, until his health forced him into an early retirement.  Most recently, Wes enjoyed making his home at Valley Pine apartments, in Twin Valley, where he was surrounded by good friends and neighbors.

Wesley has always loved sports and enjoyed watching his favorite teams compete.  When he was able, he liked to hunt, fish, camp, and spend time outdoors. He was a Harley Davidson motorcycle enthusiast and a forever fan of Dodge cars.  Wes especially loved hanging out with friends, socializing, and enjoying a can of Budweiser.  He also treasured quiet conversations, sharing stories, and telling jokes. Wesley's smile was contagious and will be fondly remembered by many.

Wesley is survived by his sisters, Teri (Tom) Bjerk of Alexandria, MN, and Sandy (Mark) Hergott of Warroad, MN; three nephews, Travis Bjerk, Nick Soiney, and Ryan Soiney; one niece, Trista Bjerk; and several cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and many aunts, uncles and extended family members.

A graveside service, with military honors, will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Mahnomen, MN.
