Wayne Norby, age 65, of Mahnomen, MN, died Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at the Mahnomen Health Center.

Wayne Lester Norby, the son of Lester and Erna (Ovaldson) Norby, was born on April 26, 1954 in Mahnomen.  As a student at Mahnomen High School, he excelled in football, basketball and track.  Wayne proudly graduated with the class of 1972, following which, he went to college for a short time.  He then began working with Ron Spaeth Oil Co and later Gordon Construction.  In 1986, Wayne was united in marriage to Julie Spaeth and together they were blessed with a son, Derek.  Wayne moved to Colorado where he worked for several years before returning to Moorhead to make his home.  Wayne married Terri Perrault and the couple spent many years together.  Following his retirement last year, Wayne moved back to Mahnomen.  He was an avid sports fan and was often found watching the game on TV, especially the MN Vikings and Twins teams.  Locally, he proudly held an annual membership to attend all Mahnomen School Sporting events, cheering on the athletes and reminiscing about his high school days.  Wayne had a wealth of friends and loved to visit.  He could strike up a conversation with anyone.   He also enjoyed playing Bingo and dancing.  Above all, Wayne was so very proud of his son and truly loved being a grandpa.

Wayne is survived by his son, Derek (Katie) Norby and grandson, Carson, all of Detroit Lakes, MN; one brother, Larry (Kathy) Norby of Rochester, MN; three sisters: Bonnie (Lloyd) Slette of East Grand Forks, MN, Geri (Dave) Paul of Mahnomen, and Janet Tremel of Moorhead, MN; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother-in-law; John Tremel.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Mahnomen, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service also at the church. Interment will be held in Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, Mahnomen, MN.
