Wayne E. Duckstad

Wayne E. Duckstad, 66, Fertile, MN, formerly of Moorhead, MN, died Friday, July 7, 2017, after a short illness at Sanford Health, Fargo, ND.

Wayne Elmer Duckstad was born on April 7, 1951 in Crookston, MN to Elmer and Bertha (Nephew) Duckstad. His mother passed away when he was 6 years old and he went to live with his aunt and uncle; Alice & Gordie Austinson, until he was 16. He became like a brother to Carol and Doug.  When his dad retired from the railroad, he went to live with him.  He attended school in Fertile and graduated from Fertile-Beltrami High School in 1970.  Wayne attended tech school for a couple of years at Morrhead Technical College and studied welding.  After graduating, he worked for a short time for Spiels Cable Company.  He was united in marriage to Joan Nelson in 1984 and they were blessed with two daughters, Stacy and Kelli.  They later divorced.

He worked for American Crystal Sugar as a boiler operator/welder for over 37 years before he retired in 2014.  Wayne was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed trips on his Harley Davidson, and spending time fishing, racing, and following the Twins.  He loved special times with his daughters and grandchildren.

Wayne is survived by daughters, Stacy Rood, and Kelli Duckstad, both of Fargo, three grandchildren, Carter, Colton and Ariana and his close cousin, Carol (Dale) Mackowick, of Fertile. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial Service: 2:00 PM, Saturday, July 15, 2017, at Erikson-Vik-Ganje Funeral Home, Fertile, MN.

Visitation: One hour before the service at the funeral home.

Burial: Concordia Lutheran Cemetery, Fertile, MN.
