Naytahwaush
Wanda Alvarado, age 79, of Naytahwaush, MN, died on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at her home.
Wanda was born on October 6, 1946, in White Earth, MN, to Charles and Pearl (Cain) Folstrom. She was raised in the Naytahwaush area, where she attended school and built the roots of a life centered on family and community. As a young woman, Wanda worked at the Naytahwaush sewing factory while beginning her greatest and most cherished role of being a mother. In 1966, she was united in marriage to Ramiro Alvarado Jr. Though their marriage later ended in 1983, they remained good friends throughout the years. Wanda found her greatest joy in her family. She deeply loved being a mother and treasured every moment spent with her grandchildren. She lovingly helped raise and babysat for many of her grandkids, always offering a steady, gentle presence and a heart full of love.
Known for her quiet and kind nature, Wanda was a sweet and gentle soul who would help anyone in need. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends and could often be found spending hours on the phone catching up with loved ones. In her quieter moments, she enjoyed reading and watching westerns. She also had an eye for antiques and loved searching for hidden treasures while thrifting. Wanda will be remembered for her warmth, her kindness, and the love she gave so freely to those around her.
Wanda is survived by her daughters: Gina Alvarado, Lori Alvarado, and Kristian (Chad) Elliott; sons: Jesse Alvarado and Shiloh Folstrom; brothers: David (Kim) Folstrom, Manteca, CA, Albert (Diana) Folstrom, Las Vegas, NV, Robert Folstrom, Gonvick, MN, Lawrence Folstrom, Mahnomen, MN, and Harry Folstrom, Naytahwaush, MN; sisters, Myrtle (Earl) Reed, Moatsville, WV, and Rose (Jack) Thebo, Traverse City, MI; 18 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Pearl; one sister, Edna Marie Merritt; two brothers, Jim Merritt and Walt Biggness; and one great grandson, Kane Miller; as well as many extended family members.
