Walter
Schneidermann
Apr 24, 1934 — Aug 7, 2023
Ulen
Walter Schneidermann, age 89, of Ulen, MN, passed away on Monday, August 7, 2023 at Viking Manor Nursing Home, Ulen, under the excellent care of the nursing home staff and Hospice.
Walter was born on April 24, 1934, to the loving parents Harm and Tillie (Baumann) Schneidermann in George, IA. His parents immigrated from Germany in 1926, and shortly after his birth, they settled east of Ulen. Walter attended District 46 Country School in Walworth Township until he was old enough to assist his family on the farm. With time and dedication, Walter and his brothers established and operated the successful Schneidermann Brothers farm as a small grain operation and fat cattle feed lot operation.
Walter proudly served his country from 1957 to 1964, being actively involved in the Detroit Lakes National Guard. During this time, he met the love of his life, Mary Ann Beck. The couple exchanged vows on June 6, 1965, and together, they created their forever home on the Schneidermann farm outside of Ulen. In 1975, Walter and Mary Ann embarked on their own farming venture, establishing an operation that they later passed down to their son, David and now grandson, Zach. Although officially "retiring" in 2003, Walter remained actively engaged in the daily farm operations until his health began to decline due to bravely battling Parkinson's for 12 years and bladder cancer for the last year and a half.
Walter served on the Ulen Co-op Board, Ulen Township Board, Bethlehem Lutheran Church Council, and while farming, was active in the National Farmers Organization (NFO). As a typical farmer, Walter found joy in tinkering on the farm and driving around to check the fields. He had a warm and welcoming nature, always enjoying conversations with family and friends. It was not uncommon for Walter and Mary Ann to be the last to leave the coffee hour after church on Sundays. He loved the time spent with his grandchildren, creating cherished memories with them. Walter took immense pride in his German heritage and was fluent in the language. He made two trips to Germany, one in 1990 and another in 1999, to connect with relatives and embrace his roots. Walter Schneidermann's legacy of hard work, dedication, and love for family will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew him.
Walter is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Ann; children: David (Kristi), and Carolyn (Roderick) Cyr; grandchildren: Zach (fiancé Christine), and Allie (Kyle) Lisburg; sister, Hilda Schneidermann; brother, Arthur Schneidermann; multiple nieces and nephews; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; and many cousins.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Harm and Tillie; in-laws, Bill and Edith; one sister; six brothers; two nephews; two nieces; and brother-in-law, Ed Beck and his wife, Dorothy Beck.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 11, 2023 at 3:00 p.m., with a visitation starting one hour before, at Maranatha Free Lutheran Church in Ulen. Burial will take place at Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery – North, Ulen.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Viking Manor and all of the staff and Hospice of the Red River Valley for their excellent care and concern.
