Obituary

Walter Gwin, age 84, of Twin Valley, MN, died Tuesday, October 10, 2006, in the Twin Valley Living Center, Twin Valley.

Walter Gwin was born February 22, 1922, the son of Ray and Nora (Stucker) Gwin near Borup, MN. He grew up and attended school in Felton, MN. As a young man, he moved to the Ulen, MN, area. On June 8, 1947, Walter was united in marriage to Barbara Huseby in Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ulen. The couple made their home in the Twin Valley and Ulen area until moving to the family farm in 1953, where they continued to live until moving into Twin Valley in 2005. Walter entered the Twin Valley Living Center in February of this year and had resided there since.

For Walter, farming was not a hobby, but it was a way of life. Over the years, he farmed small grains, milked cows and provided custom bailing of hay and straw. He was also employed by American Crystal Sugar in Moorhead for several years. Walter enjoyed sharing stories of the time he spent breaking, riding and farming with horses over the years. He also enjoyed fishing, old time music, especially waltzes and family get-togethers. Walter especially treasured the time he spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In his younger years, he found enjoyment in dancing and playing cards. Walter was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Ulen.

Walter is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara of Twin Valley, MN; daughter, Linda (Mathew) Moe of Hitterdal, MN; sons, Wayne (Danette), of Ada, MN, Ron (Shirley) of Mapelton, ND, Dwight (Doreen) of Hawley, MN, Joel (Carol), also of Ada, MN, and Kim (Dandrea) of Ulen, MN; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; sisters, Iva Norman, of San Diego, CA, Joyce (Willie) Matson, of Ulen and Lola (Bob) Harmoning, of Red Lake Falls, MN; and one brother, Joseph "Buster" (Adeline), of Coon Rapids, MN.
He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
