Viviette "Babes" Haugtvedt, age 85, of Fargo, formerly of Ulen, MN, died Friday, May 26, 2017, in Villa Maria Nursing Home.
Babes was born July 26, 1931, the daughter of Theodore and Ethel (Poehls) Butenhoff in Fargo, ND. As a young girl, Babes grew up near Baker, MN, and later near Sabin, MN, where she lived until adulthood. After graduating from Moorhead State Teachers College, she taught for a year in Hendrum, MN, before marrying Vernie Haugtvedt on June 14, 1952, in Sabin. They made their home in Fargo for several years, where Babes worked for a bank. In the late 1950s, Babes and Vernie purchased a farm near Ulen, where they raised their two children, Eric and Kim. They operated their farm until retirement in 1990. They continued to make the farm their home until 2006, when they moved into Hawley. After Vernie's death in 2012, Babes moved to Villa Maria in Fargo.
Babes was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ulen. Her favorite pastimes included gardening, quilting, and occasional trips to the casino. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Babes is survived by her son, Eric (Barb) of Hazel Green, AL; daughter, Kim (Duane) Jeral of Hawley, MN; six grandchildren: Nolan (Nichole), Austin, and Dylan Jeral, all of Hawley, and Ashley (Michael) Gaddis of Huntsville, AL, Amanda (Adam) Gentry of Northport, AL, and Kayla Haugtvedt of Hazel Green; three great-grandchildren: Colby and Landon Jeral, and Emily Gentry; sister, Lila Stubstad of Pelican Rapids, MN; sisters-in-law, Inez Braton, Norma (Harold) Helm, Florence Larson, and Goldie (Harley) Hansen; and several nieces and nephews.
Babes was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; four brothers: Donald, Ted, Roy, and Ray; and one sister, Alma.
