Vivian Bisek, age 92, of Mahnomen, MN, died Saturday, September 1, 2007, at the Mahnomen Health Center, Mahnomen.
Vivian Lucille Hallstrom was born to Alfred and Hattie (Folstrom) Hallstrom on February 3, 1915 at Bejou, MN where she grew up and attended elementary school. Following her graduation from Mahnomen High School she attended and graduated from Moorhead State Teacher?s College. Vivian and Jerry Bisek were united in marriage on August 22, 1935. They lived in Bejou for three years before moving to Mahnomen, where they have since made their home. Vivian taught primarily the sixth grade in rural, one room schools, including Hart, Naytahwaush and Mahnomen for twenty-three years. As an active person in her community, she had enjoyed volunteering at the Food Shelf, Historical Museum, American Cancer Society, the Council of Aging and the Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home.
She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Mahnomen and a member and past officer of the Catholic Daughters. Vivian also served as a member of the PTA and MEA as well as the Retired Teacher Association and the VFW Auxiliary Post #1226. Always one to stay active, she liked traveling, golfing, playing cards, crocheting and participating in the Garden, Hobby and Homemakers Clubs.
Surviving are her husband of seventy-two years, Jerry Bisek, Mahnomen; two daughters, Jerine (Lou) Polack, Plymouth, MN and Darlene (Ron) Stong, Brooklyn Park, MN; 8 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Other family members who survive her are; sisters-in-law, Beatrice Dusek, Martha Schilling, Patricia Bisek and Mary "Babe" Christianson adn brother-in-law, Tom (Gloria) Bisek. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ray and Bill (Sybil) Hallstrom; and sisters, Lillian Jorgenson and Rosella Walters.
