Virginia Prestegord
Sivertson
Jul 9, 1933 — Nov 5, 2021
Moorhead
Virginia Prestegord Sivertson, age 88, of Moorhead, MN, formerly Felton, MN, passed away on Friday, November 5, 2021, at Ecumen Evergreens Memory Care in Moorhead.
Virginia Grembowski, the daughter of Stanley and Veronica (Marick) Grembowski, was born on July 9, 1933, in Warsaw, ND. She grew up and attended school in Big Woods, near Oslo, MN. Her family operated a vegetable farm where she helped as much as she could. Through family friends, Virginia met Arnold Prestegord and they were married before he was drafted. Virginia traveled with him to basic training, and they began their family. She came to Twin Valley, MN, where she lived with his family until his honorable discharge. The made their home in Twin Valley and Ada, MN area, and finally moved permanently to Felton in the late 1960's. Virginia lovingly raised their four children while helping prepare meals for the farmhands working with Arnold. Following their divorce later in life, Virginia moved to Fargo-Moorhead. She proudly earned her GED and began working. Virginia was always very comfortable around senior citizens and greatly enjoyed working in nursing homes. She also worked at several cafés over the years. In 1983, Virginia married Melvin Sivertson and they shared their life together until his death in 2009. As her dementia progressed, Virginia moved into various care centers but has happily made her home at the Evergreens for the past several years.
Virginia was a gifted seamstress and made most of her children's clothing. Her hands were never idle, as she liked to do a variety of crafts and sewing projects. She adored her family. Virginia was a "grandma" through and through being gentle, cuddly, warm and soft. She loved to play whist and her family knew she always went high. Her quick wit and funny sayings will be remembered by all. She was well known for her baking and cooking, especially her breads, cinnamon rolls, and potato salad. When she baked, all the neighborhood kids stopped by for treats. She also loved music and dancing. After surviving many harsh storms and a tornado, Virginia was very worried about the weather. She was the first to warn her loved ones and make sure they stayed safe. The happiness of her family and other loved ones was evident in all she did. Virginias generous spirit touched everyone she knew.
Virginia is survived by her children: Steve (Marilyn) Prestegord of Ada, MN, Dorothy (Larry) Vincent of Felton, MN, Vernon (Kristi) Prestegord of Twin Valley, and Edward (Denise) of Hawley, MN; eight grandchildren: John, Karen, Rebecca, Danielle, Heather, J.R., Mariah, and Jazmine; and 12 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin; three brothers: Alphonse, Frank, and Joseph; and two sisters: Irene Floan and Theresa Kostrzewski.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, November 11, 2021, at The Anderson Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour before the funeral. Burial will be in Gloria Dei Lutheran Cemetery in Felton.
Following all Covid-19 safety protocols, and CDC guidelines, social distancing will be practiced. Masks are strongly encouraged.
