Virginia Kappes, age 66, of Waubun, MN, died on Thursday, February 17, 2022, at her home.

Virginia Rita Kappes was born September 6, 1955, in Ada, MN, the only daughter of Virgil and Lula (Card) Kappes.  Her early years were spent living on the Kappes Family farm, east of Borup, MN.  In 1969, the family moved into town, where Virginia attended school.  She graduated from Borup High School with the Class of 1973.  Following graduation, Virginia furthered her education by attending business college in Moorhead, MN, for a year and a half.  In 1975, she moved back to Borup and was blessed with her only daughter, Rachel.  After some time, Virginia moved to Ada where she worked various jobs including Ada Grain Co.  She worked as the company's business manager from 1979 until 1993, when the company changed hands.  Virginia then decided to make the move to Greenbush, MN, and began working at Marvin Windows.  She eventually moved to Warroad, MN, to make her home.  In 2013, she retired and moved back to Waubun to help take care of her mother and eventually her father in 2021 until his death.

Virginia's favorite past times included reading, watching the MN Vikings and traveling.  She often traveled to Nebraska to spend time with her daughter and grandchildren, whom she dearly loved.  Virginia also loved to watch the birds and would often create homemade art by making something out of nothing!  She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Virginia is survived by her daughter, Rachel (Brian) Smith of Murray, NE; three grandchildren: Chandra, Michael and Zachariah Smith; five brothers: Ralph (Sheila) of Ravensdale, WA, Frank of Hawley, MN, Stuart (Linda) of Pierson, IA, Mike (Vicki) of Waubun and Jack (Jeanette) of Butte, MT; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, February 25, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Anderson Family Funeral Home, Mahnomen, MN. A time of gathering will take place one-hour prior.

Following all Covid-19 safety protocols, and CDC guidelines, social distancing will be practiced. Masks are strongly encouraged.
