Violet Irene Umphrey (Carlson) passed away on October 22, 2013 at the Twin Valley Living Center in Twin Valley, MN at the age of 90. Funeral services were on October 28, 2013 at the Twin Valley Living Center in Twin Valley, MN at 2:00 pm with Pastor Longshore officiating. Burial services were on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at 10:30 am at the Inkster Cemetery.

Violet was born on April 27, 1923 to Emil and Edna Carlson (Soper) in Fairdale, ND. She married Elwyn Umphrey on August 5, 1940 in Grand Forks, ND and they resided in Inkster, ND. In 1966 they moved from Inkster to Bagley, MN and lived there until 1975 when they retired and moved to Park River, ND. Violet moved to St. Anne's Guest Home, Grand Forks, ND in 1996 and resided there until 2007 when she moved to Twin Valley Living Center to be closer to her son, Doug.

She is survived by her children Raymond Umphrey of Inkster, ND, Douglas (Terry) Umphrey of Twin Valley, MN, Lucy (Troy) Monroe of Hugo, CO, Carol Tupa of Hoople, ND, Steven Umphrey of Park River, ND; daughter–in-law Della Umphrey of Bismarck, ND; sister Dodie Trenda of Hutchinson, MN; brother Alvin Carlson of Grand Forks, ND; 19 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elwyn Umphrey, daughter Doris Umphrey, sons Robert Umphrey and Ronald (Gus) Umphrey, brothers William and Harold Carlson, sisters Ruth Carlson, Lillian Carlson, Florence Bucher and Evelyn Fayette.
