Violet J. Thorson, age 80, of Twin Valley, Minnesota died Friday, November 16, 2012 at the Twin Valley Living Center.
Violet was born August 13, 1932 the youngest child of Martin and Evangeline (Bjerke) Dahlsad near Georgetown, Minnesota. She was baptized and later confirmed in her Lutheran Faith. Violet was raised on the family farm east of Georgetown, attending country school followed by Borup High School where she graduated with the class of 1950. As a young lady, she worked at Warren's Cafe in Moorhead, Minnesota for a few years. On December 10, 1955 Violet was united in marriage to William Meyer. They made their home east of Flom, Minnesota where they operated a dairy farm. After William's death in 1966, Violet continued to make her home in the Ulen community and was employed at the Ulen Clinic for Dr. Saxman. On November 18, 1967 she married Dennis Thorson in Ulen. They made their home in Twin Valley where they raised their two daughters. In addition to being a full time mom, Violet would drive residents from the nursing home to their doctor appointments and was also the site manager at Valley Pines Senior meals for many years. In 1988, she became the secretary for Zion Lutheran Church, a position she held for 20 years before retiring in 2008. In 2010, Violet became a resident of the Twin Valley Living Center.
She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.
As a talented seamstress, Violet not only enjoyed sewing, but also quilting, crocheting and embroidery. She was also musically gifted, playing both the piano and organ. Many family and friends will remember Violet with her vast collections of 200+ music boxes and her china collection with violets, too numerous to count. She loved spending time at their cabin on South Twin Lake which they had for over 30 years where she was an avid fisherman. Violet had a special place in her heart for her three grandchildren and also for her two neighbor boys, Adam and Aaron.
She is survived by her husband, Dennis, Twin Valley; daughters, Annette Thorson, Twin Valley and Cheryl (Bryen) Rohrbach, Big Lake, MN; grandsons, Kendell and Kobe Harrell; granddaughter, Kyra Rohrbach; brothers: Vernon (Gladys), Emmanuel (Gladys), Herbert (Irene) all of Moorhead, MN, Orville (Doris) Detroit Lakes, MN and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday November 20, at 11:00 am in the Zion Lutheran Church, Twin Valley, Minnesota. Visitation was Monday from 5:00pm until 7:00pm with a prayer service at 6:30pm all in the Anderson Funeral Home, Twin Valley, Minnesota. Pastor Ann Pairan officiated with Monica Winter providing music. Her pallbearers were all of her nephews: David Dahlsad, Larry Dahlsad, Tim Dahlsad, Milton Dahlsad, Ronnie Dahlsad, Rodney Dahlsad and Edward Dahlsad. Burial was in the Twin Valley Memorial Gardens.
