Watch Vicky's Memorial Mass

Victoria "Vicky" (Omang) Heyen, 60, of Detroit Lakes, MN, passed away Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Essentia Health Oak Crossing, Detroit Lakes.

Vicky Omang was born December 3, 1963, in Mahnomen, MN, the daughter of Clayton and Valeria (Brtek) Omang. She was raised on the family farm near Bejou, MN, and attended school in Mahnomen, graduating with the class of 1982. Vicky attended and later graduated from NDSU with a teaching degree. While in college she worked at Domino's Pizza. Vicky was united in marriage to Wallace Heyen and together with their son, Andrew, made their home in Lincoln, NE. While living in Lincoln, she was a Pre-School teacher, a job she truly loved. Vicky always found great joy in being with children and treasured her time teaching. Due to her declining health with multiple sclerosis, she was forced to retire from instructing childcare providers and later moved back to Minnesota. Vicky has made her home at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes for the past 11 years.

She loved her family and spending time with them. Her faith was very important to her, and it showed how she lived her life.  Vicky also enjoyed decorating. She loved changing the décor of her room at Oak Crossing for every season of the year.

Vicky is survived by one son, Andrew Heyen of Lincoln, NE; her mother and stepfather, Valeria and Richard Pavlish of Bejou; two sisters, Debbie (David) Johnson of Alexandra, MN, and Darcy (Randy) Qual of Mora, MN; two brothers, Bruce (Joyce) Omang of Detroit Lakes, and Duane Pavlish of Fosston, MN.

Vicky was preceded in death by her father, Clayton, and a brother, Byron.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 10:00 am at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Mahnomen, MN, with a Time of Gathering one hour prior.  Inurnment will be in Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery, Bejou, MN.
