Verona Kragness, 91, Halstad, MN, died Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at Halstad Living Center, Halstad, Minnesota.
Verona Isabelle Ellingworth was born December 7, 1922, at home on a farm near Ada, MN, the daughter of Jesse and Clara (Hovland) Ellingworth. She was baptized and confirmed at East Marsh River Lutheran Church, near Halstad and attended schools in Borup, Halstad, and Ada, MN. Verona was united in marriage to Earl Kragness on October 3, 1942, at the Hendrum (MN) Lutheran Church parsonage. She worked from home and raised her children and was well known over the years for her cooking and baking, sharing many special meals with family and friends. She was also employed at Holland's Hardware of Halstad for many years before she retired. She was an active member of Halstad Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday School, serving with Ladies Aid, and as chairwomen of the funeral hospitality committee. She also served on the Auxiliary of the Halstad Living Center and Halstad American Legion Post. Verona lived at home until she moved to the Halstad Living Center in February of 2012.
Verona is survived by her children, Carole (Jerry) Larson, Climax, MN, David (Janice) Kragness, Warroad, MN, Yvonne (Karl) Thomas, Mentor, MN, Richard Kragness, Hillsboro, ND, and Ronald (Julie) Kragness, Mentor, MN, 2 sisters, Clarabelle Sipe, Ada, MN, and Marilynn (Donald) Krsnak, Hendrum, MN, 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Earl, 4 brothers, Orville, Jesse, Marvin, and Burton, and 2 sisters, Ardis Rasmussen and Mabel Rognlie.
Funeral: 11:00AM, Saturday, December 21, 2013, at Halstad Lutheran Church, Halstad, MN.
Visitation: Friday from 4PM to 6PM, with a 6:00PM Prayer Service at Fredrikson Valley Funeral Home, Halstad, MN
Burial: Halstad South Cemetery.
