Watch Verona's Funeral

Verona Johnson, age 90, of Ada, MN, died Tuesday, December 15, 2020, at Valley Senior Living Center in Grand Forks, ND.

Verona Ardelle Maydole was born on May 17, 1930 to Edna (Hoots) and L.D. Maydole in Hurdsfield, ND. She grew up in Hurdsfield and graduated from Hurdsfield High School. Following high school, Verona attended Valley City Teachers College and taught at a country school. On December 25, 1948, she married Edwin "Bud" Johnson in Bowdon, ND. Verona and Bud made their first home on a farm northwest of Hurdsfield, ND. In 1952 they bought a farm southeast of Twin Valley, MN. They lived on this farm overlooking Home Lake for 60 years.  In 2012 they bought a house in Ada, MN and moved to town.They were blessed with two children, Barry and Bonnie. Besides caring for her family, Verona worked at Viking Snowmobile in Twin Valley and sold Tupperware. Verona became the Twin Valley Elementary School secretary from 1979 until retiring in 1990.

Verona was a faithful and devoted wife to Bud for nearly 72 years, and she was a loving and affectionate mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She adored her family, and valued time with her grandkids. She had a special connection with children and especially cherished rocking babies. Verona was blessed with many talents. She was an excellent seamstress, furniture refinisher, and cook. She was never content with giving less than her best in everything she did. She took great pride in tending her flower garden and decorating her home.  She was always stylish and enjoyed shopping and keeping up with current fashion trends. Verona had an outgoing personality and cared about others. She loved socializing and spending time with her friends and neighbors, attending card parties and other events, and just getting out of the house and going places. When she was home, she would often relax by enjoying a cup of tea while reading her mail and looking through magazines. In the summertime, she loved going to the lake and always made a trip to the local county fair. Verona was an active 4-H leader and a member of the church Ladies' Aid. She also participated in water aerobics and square dancing.

Verona will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Verona is survived by her husband, Edwin "Bud" Johnson; son, Barry (Lorie) Johnson of Kenmare, ND; daughter, Bonnie (David) Solberg of Grand Forks, ND;  grandchildren, Kate (Arthur) Howard, Bryan (Maggie) Johnson, Matt (Brooke) Solberg, Amy (Nathan) Fiala, Megan (Eric) Bonn, Matthew (Kelly) Stewart, Natasha (Jim) Haugen; 18 great-grandchildren; sisters, Sharlene Halverson and Pat Dettman;  brothers, Doug (Ruth) Maydole and Lloyd (Sandy) Maydole.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Lyle Maydole; grandson, Mark Solberg; and stepmother, Margaret Maydole.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 21, 2020, at Zion Lutheran Church, Twin Valley, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior at the church. Following all Covid-19 guidelines, all must wear a mask to attend.
