Obituary

Vernon Leroy Halstad, 85, of Halstad, MN, went home to be with the Lord, on Saturday May 26, 2018, at the Halstad Living Center, Halstad, MN.

He was born to Carl and Clara (Hage) Halstad, at the family farm in rural Halstad, MN, on August 3rd, 1932. He was the grandson of Ole Halstad whom the town is named after. Vernon attended country school near Halstad and finished 10th grade. He worked on the family dairy farm with his father Carl until he was enlisted in the Army on active duty November 18, 1952. Vernon served during the Korean War as a Clerk/Signal Messenger at Fort Lewis, Washington until he was honorably discharged with the rank of corporal on November 17, 1954. Vernon also was in the Army Reserve for 8 years.

After serving his country, he became a salesman of vacuum cleaners and cars and won many national awards for his sales.  During that time he lived in Moorhead and other surrounding towns. In 1970 he started an antique business which was his passion and interest.  He was self-employed and opened two antiques stores in Twin Valley, MN.  Also he traveled to antique shows around the country and lived in the Seattle, WA area for some time. Vernon worked with antiques until he retired.

He lived at the Lincoln Terrace in Twin Valley, also at the Valley View Manor Apartment, Ada, MN with Benedictine Services, and the last 10 months Vernon was living at the Halstad Living Center. Vernon enjoyed spending time with family, watching westerns movies and watching the Minnesota Vikings.

Vernon is survived by his five sons; Bruce (Mary) Halstad and daughter Sarah, Mike (Echo) Halstad and children Amanda, Ryan, Jamie and Joshua,  Arlen Halstad and children Stephen, Chelsey and Evan,  Darwin (Bjorg) Halstad and children Aaron, Deborah and Raquel, and son Matthew Halstad. He has 12 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Two brothers Eugene Halstad, Arnorld Halstad, and two sisters Evelyn (Halstad) Halvorson and Darlene (Halstad) Windingland. He was preceded in death by his father Carl and mother Clara, infant daughter Pamela, infant granddaughter, brother Allen, sisters Helen Lee, June Omdahl and Delores Chandler.

Funeral: 11:00AM Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at Augustana Lutheran Church, rural Halstad, MN.

Visitation: Monday, June 4, 2018, from 5:00PM to 7:00PM, at Fredrikson-Ganje Funeral Home, Halstad, MN.

Burial: Augustana Lutheran Cemetery, rural Halstad, MN.
