Vernon Gronvold

Vernon Gronvold, age 87, of Halstad, MN, passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at the Veteran's Hospital in Fargo, ND, surrounded by his wife and children.

Vernon was born on March 12, 1922, in Ada, MN, to Olaf and Belinda (Haugen) Gronvold. He attended grade school in Ada and also Washington country school in Anthony Township. He worked for area farmers and also the Civilian Conservation Core. He also worked for Boeing in Seattle, WA.
Vernon enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving from 1942 – 1946 during World War II in the South Pacific. He then returned to Ada and worked for the City.

On Feb. 19, 1949, he was united in marriage to Maxine Doris Peterson of Twin Valley, MN. They made their home in Sabin, MN, from 1950 to 1963, before moving to Halstad, MN. They had 6 children. Vernon worked as a lineman for the Red River Cooperative of Halstad, MN, from 1947 until retiring in 1984.

Vernon is survived by his wife Maxine, one son, Douglas Gronvold, three daughters, Dana Gronvold, Lisa Gronvold, all of Halstad, MN, and Teresa (William) Welle, Oriska, ND, 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, one sister, Ruth Menge, Hastings, MN, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Erling and John Gronvold, two sisters, Blanche Wambach and Marjorie Nelson, two brothers, Donald (BooBoo) Gronvold and Stanley Gronvold, and 2 great grandchildren.

Funeral Service: 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 13, 2010, at Halstad Lutheran Church, Halstad, MN.

Visitation: One hour before the service at the church.

Burial: Halstad North Cemetery. (In the spring)
