Obituary

Vernon Floan, 85, of Fertile, MN went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at the home of his sister, Lorraine "Laurie" Pederson.

Vernon was born on the farm near Fertile, on November 9, 1927, to Lawrence and Emma (Mehle) Floan. He was baptized and confirmed at Varnes Lutheran Church in rural Fertile, MN. He attended country school, District 10, and graduated from Fertile High School in 1945. He joined the United States Army serving for 2 years in occupied Japan from 1946-1948. After being honorably discharged he returned to farm with his parents. Vernon was a lifelong farmer of the land homesteaded by his grandfather and a lifelong member of Varnes Lutheran Church. In recent years he took pride in working with the wild prairie grasses and flowers on his native prairie land. Vernon served on the Varnes Cemetery Board for many years and also as clerk for 35 years on the Onstad Township Board.

Vernon is survived by his sister, Lorraine "Laurie" (Verdie) Pederson, East Grand Forks, MN, a sister-in-law, Betty Floan, East Grand Forks, MN, nieces and nephews, Linda (Steve) DeVries, Sherrie (Gary) Sanders, Mark (Claudia) Floan, Beth Nelson, Brian Pederson, and many great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Donald Floan, and Beth's husband, Bradley Nelson.

Memorial Service: 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 1, 2013, Varnes Lutheran Church, at Fertile Fairgrounds, Fertile, MN.

Visitation: One hour before the service at the church.
