Vernice Geddes, 92, Ada, MN, died Sunday, September, 8, 2013 at Essentia Health, Ada, MN.

Vernice May Heitman was born to William and Clara (Letness) Heitman in Crookston, Minnesota on May 9, 1921. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in the now no longer existing Pleasant View Church. On July 22, 1941, on her parents' wedding anniversary, Vernice and Ordean (Bud) Geddes were married. They then became members of First Lutheran Church of Ada, which later became Grace Lutheran. Bud and Vernice farmed for several years. Bud started up a machinery selling business, Geddes Equipment, and then their son, Rodger, and son-in-law Harlan Hoff took over the farm operations.

After selling that last venture, Bud and Vernice spent twelve winters in Florida, and did some traveling. They visited Hawaii a couple times, went with a church group to Israel, visited a few other countries, and saw much of our own country. A favorite trip was to England in 1973 to meet a granddaughter who was born there three months earlier. Bud had his first stroke in 1995, and, except to visit children and grandchildren, traveling was then curtailed. Bud passed away February 18, 2008.

Throughout her life, Vernice lived her life to the fullest. She loved her Lord and read the bible daily. She enjoyed spending time with her cat, Moses, and friends, and family. She always had a "delicious cup of coffee" ready for whoever might want to join her and loved to play Scrabble and card games. She had a sharp wit and worked hard to keep up with modern technology. She kept her out-of-town family and friends close with e-mail, Facebook, and internet word games.

Vernice is survived by five children and their spouses: Jerry and Linda Geddes of Little Rock, Arkansas; Rodger and Rhonda Geddes of Elbow Lake, Minnesota; Rita and Harlan Hoff of White Earth Lake, Minnesota; Ginger and Peter Rasmussen of Fort Myers, Florida; and Merry (Cookie) and Steven Luchau of Alexandria, Minnesota. Vernice is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Dottie Heitman, Bud's two sisters: Eleanor Cirks of Nevis, Minnesota, and Shirley Foldoe of Anoka, Minnesota. She has twelve grandchildren, seventeen and a half great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service: 11:00am Friday, September 13, 2013, at Grace Lutheran Church, Ada.

Visitation: 5-7pm Thursday at the church with a 6:30 prayer service.

Burial: Ada Municipal Cemetery, Ada, MN.
