Obituary

Verne Knopfler, 76, Ulen MN, died Monday December 22, 2014, at the Twin Valley Living Center, Twin Valley, MN.

Verne R. Knopfler was born June 18, 1938, the son of Clarence and Esther (Mortenson) Knopfler south of Ulen and moved to a farm west of Ulen where he was raised. He attended school in Ulen where he graduated from High School. Verne worked in the area a few years before he entered the United States Air Force. While in the Air Force, he was trained in air craft radio communications. After his discharge in 1965, he returned to the Ulen community. In 1976, he was united in marriage to Mary Matson and they made their home in Ulen. Over the years he worked for area farmers and drove truck. The last several years of his working career he drove for Trans Systems. After his retirement in his early 1960's, he continued to live in Ulen and for the past few months he had lived in the Twin Valley Living Community.

A special interest he had was working in the pit crew during snowmobile races including the Winnipeg 500. Verne was also a member of the V.F.W.

He is survived by two sisters, Esther (Claude) Parker, Torrance, CA, and Hazel (Henry) Valdez, Poway, CA; also a nephew, Donny Knopfler and a niece, Lahna Haverkamp, both of Ulen, MN.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday December 30, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at the Anderson Family Funeral Home Chapel, Twin Valley. A Time of Gathering will be one hour prior to the service. Pastor Norman Gullingsrud will officiate. Burial will be in the West Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, Ulen, MN.
