Verna Greig, age 84, of Twin Valley, MN formerly Moorhead, MN, died Thursday, October 27, 2011, in Bridges Care Community, Ada.

Verna Irene Prestegord was born March 28, 1927, the daughter of Louis and Carrie (Myrvold) Prestegord east of Twin Valley in Flom Township. As a youngster, Verna attended the Plentywood country school in that area. She was baptized and confirmed her faith at Wild Rice Lutheran Church near Twin Valley. As a young woman, Verna went to the Twin Cities where she worked for several years. Verna returned to Twin Valley where she was employed at the Twin Valley Creamery. In 1946, Verna moved to Everett, Washington. On September 5, 1946, Verna was united in marriage to Hillery Syverson. The couple made their home in Everett for a few years before making their home back in the Twin Valley community. Verna was employed part-time at the Halvorson Clothing store while they lived here. They moved to Melrose, MN in 1967. Hillery died in 1970. Shortly after Hillery's death, Verna moved to Moorhead. On July 20, 1974, Verna was united in marriage to William Greig in Moorhead where they made their home. William died June 26, 1998. Verna continued to make her home there until 2009, when she moved into the Normandy Apartments in Twin Valley. She spent the past few months at Bridges Care Community where she resided until the time of her death.

Verna enjoyed the time she spent visiting with her friends over a cup of coffee as well as spending time at their cabin on Tulaby Lake. Her favorite past times included canning, baking, traveling and taking bus tours. Verna was a member of the Sons of Norway, served as a band mother as well as being a den mother when her boys were in Cub Scouts. Over the years, she was also an active member in various women's church groups. Verna will always be affectionately remembered by her grandchildren as "Uff da Grandma".

Verna is survived by her children, Mike (Janice) Syverson, Greg (Becky) Syverson all of Waubun, MN, Karen (Chris) Odden of Ada, MN, Karrie (Steve) Walters of Moorhead, MN and JoAnne Stately of Plymouth, MN; a brother, Leslie (Verna) Prestegaard of Moorhead, MN; a sister, Jean (Peter) Bartlett of South St. Paul, MN; 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, seven brothers and four sisters.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 31, 2011 at 11:00 AM in Zion Lutheran Church, Twin Valley. Visitation will be Sunday, October 30, 2011 from 3-5 PM in the Anderson Funeral Home, Twin Valley. Visitation will also be one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Officiating will be Pastor Anne Pairan with Danette Gwin serving as organist and Clayton Miller serving as vocalist. Pallbearers will be Mark Prestegaard, Rodney Prestegord, Dennis Hanson, Ben Syverson, Rodney Syverson and Mitch Syverson. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchild and her coffee friends in Moorhead.

Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Twin Valley.
