Verna June Brohaugh, 87, of Moorhead, formerly of Shelly, MN, died on Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at the Bethany Homes in Fargo, ND. She was born on February 4, 1923, to Archie and Gertrude (Benedict) Spittler at her home in Herberg Twp, rural Hillsboro, ND. As a child, Verna's mother died. Verna attended Herberg County School and graduated from the Halstad High School in 1941.
On June 21, 1941, Verna married Welden Brohaugh at Moorhead, MN. Over the years, Verna commented, "she felt she never had a home until she married Welden". She was a farmer's wife and worked at American Crystal Sugar for 32 years. Verna operated the scale at the Midwest Beet Station. She also worked part time as a bookkeeper for Henderson Oil. Verna was a long time member of Augustana Lutheran Church and its WELCA, rural Halstad, the Royal Neighbors, and sang with the Inspirations. For 28 years, she and Welden wintered in Mesa, AZ.
Verna love to shop, play bingo and pinochle with friends and family. This was a great way for her to socialize with others. She had a wonderful way of caring for her home that made others feel welcome and comfortable. Verna will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Verna is survived by her husband, Welden, Moorhead, MN; son-in-law, Ronald Bodem, Becker, MN; grandchildren: Brad (Christina) Bodem, St. Bonifacius, MN, and Connie (Mark) Pederson, Hasting, MN; great-grandchildren: Halle, Jackson, and Louis Bodem, Quinn and Riley Peterson; and many other family and friends. She preceded in death by her daughter, Betty Bodem, April 11, 2009.

Funeral services will be on Monday, March 15, 2010, at 11 am in the Halstad Lutheran Church, Halstad, MN.
Visitation will be one hour before the services at the church.
Burial will be at the Augustana Lutheran Cemetery, Halstad, MN
