Valorie Delores Bennes, 92, of Fertile, MN, died on Sunday, June 4, 2017, at the Fair Meadow Nursing Home, Fertile, MN.  She was born on April 5, 1925, in rural Fertile, to Jasper and Grace (Oswald) Anderson.  She was baptized and confirmed at the Union Lake Free Lutheran Church near her home.  Val attended country school near her home in Garden Township and graduated from Fertile-Beltrami High School in 1944.

On September 27, 1944, Valorie was united in marriage to Harvey Holmvik, at Union Lake Free Lutheran Church, rural Fertile, MN.  They moved to Moorhead, MN, and began their family.  Val and Harvey were blessed with three children: Kelsey, Marty, and Greg.  On July 14, 1949, Harvey died in a car accident.  Val moved her family back to Fertile and lived with Joyce and Juel Tollerud.

On October 27, 1951, Val was united in marriage to Milton Bennes at Fertile.  They lived in Fertile and were blessed with two sons: Michael and Donavin.  Val worked as an aid at the Fair Meadow Nursing Home for many years and, later, at the Rexall Drug Store.  For many years, Val and Milt assisted the staff with daily work at the Erikson-Vik-Ganje Funeral Home, Fertile.  Milton died on December 13, 2006.  Val continued to live in her home until August of 2016, when she moved to Fair Meadow Nursing Home.

Val was a longtime active member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Fertile, in Circles and as a Sunday School Teacher.  She had a servant's heart and was willing to help in any way she could.  Val enjoyed her home, which had to be immaculate, and flower gardens.  As a youth, Val enjoyed singing and sang in many area churches.  She was especially proud of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.  She enjoyed hearing of their adventures and worried about them when things weren't going well; she loved, prayed and cared for each one.  Family times were meaningful to Val, especially the large family Christmas celebrations.  She enjoyed the Oswald family reunions, which included a reunion in Norway.  And, she delighted in her cousins who came every summer.

Val is survived by her children: Kelsey (Dick) Braun, Fertile, MN; Marty Nolte, Fertile, MN; Greg (Sue) Holmvik, Ada, MN; Michael (Liz), Chaska, MN; and Donavin (Sara Memmott), Ypsilanti, MI; 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Adorine Bennes, Fertile, MN, Eunice Turnbon, Fertile, MN, Gladys Boril, Virginia, MN, and Louise Anderson, Blaine, MN; and several nephews and nieces.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, son-in-law, Doug Nolte, brothers, Donavin, Dallas and Lynn Anderson, and sister, LaZona Ellegard.

Funeral service: 10:30AM, Friday, June 9, 2017, Concordia Lutheran Church, Fertile, MN.

Visitation: Thursday, June 8th, from 5-7 PM with a Prayer Service at 6:30PM, Erikson-Vik-Ganje Funeral Home, Fertile, MN.

Burial: Concordia Lutheran Cemetery, Fertile, MN.
