Obituary

Truman Henry Smeby, age 65, of Detroit Lakes, MN, formerly of Mahnomen, MN, died at Lakes Homes, Detroit Lakes, on Thursday, July 24, 2014.
Truman was born February 15, 1949, in Crookston, MN, the youngest son of Theodore and Helen (Hauge) Smeby. The family lived south of Winger, MN, in the old Harvey School House. At the young age of 2, Truman was stricken with double pneumonia and suffered many convulsions. He remained at home with his parents until 1965 when he was admitted to Brainerd State Hospital. Four years later, Truman was transferred to Fergus Falls where he lived for several years. His remaining years, he made his home with Lakes Homes in Mahnomen and Detroit Lakes.
As a young boy, Truman loved to play in the sand and was truly fascinated by the trains that went past the house. As he aged, he still loved trains, but also enjoyed listening to music and watching television.
Truman is survived by his brother, Harold (Phyllis) Smeby of Fosston, MN; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Sanford.

Memorial Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at United Methodist Church in Fosston, MN. Visitation was held an hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
Inurnment was at Elim Cemetery in Winger, MN.
