Timothy "Tim" Omlid, 50, of Gary, MN, died on Saturday, January 14, 2012, at his residence in rural Fertile, MN.
Timothy Eric Omlid was born January 1, 1962, to Halvor and Gladys (Erstad) Omlid in Crookston, MN. He was the seventh of eight children who grew up on the family farm near Sundal. Tim was baptized and confirmed at the Sundal Lutheran Church. He attended Gary Public School; graduating in 1980. After High School he went to work custom combining for the summer. He moved to Texas and worked in the oil tool business for a year before returning to Gary. After a life changing accident in 1982, Tim went to Georgia and then on to California where he lived until 1988. He then moved back to the family farm in Gary and lived there until his death.
Tim played football and basketball in school and was a tough competitor. He loved to ride motorcycles and snowmobiles; he enjoyed anything with a motor. He liked to work on his cars and trucks. Tim also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Some of his most favorite times were spent with his hunting buddies out at Rydell Refuge. His love for the outdoors was strong, even if it meant just sitting on the front porch in the sunshine. He loved his yard and wore out a couple lawnmowers proving it. Tim was well known and loved going for drives around the neighborhood with his faithful dog, Angel. He enjoyed chatting on the phone with so many of his good friends and relatives, as long as you did not call during the Viking game or if there was a NASCAR race on TV. He would then make the conversation rather short.
Tim was a bachelor all of his life. He had many nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and nephews. He always looked forward to family get togethers and the dinners that came with them. He was a great cook and always happy to get a new cook book. Being very proud of his Norwegian heritage, Tim always said the dinner prayer before each meal, in Norwegian. He had just moved in to his new house and was very proud of it.
Tim is survived by three brothers: Chuck (Dona), San Antonio, TX, James (Mei), Freemont, CA, Thomas (Colleen), Lake George, MN; three sisters: Carol (Stan) Andvik, Fargo, ND, Margo (Virgil) Ollila, Menahga, MN, Terese Michaels, Doylestown, PA; one sister-in-law: Arlene Omlid, St. Cloud, MN; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Tim was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Daryl who died in 2010, and a great nephew, Brett McArthur
Memorial Service will be 11:00 am on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at Sundal Lutheran Church, Rindal, MN
Visitation will be Friday, Jan 20th from 5:00-7:00PM with a Prayer Service at 7:00pm at the chuch
Burial will be at Sundal Lutheran Cemetery
