Tilda "Tillie" Dahl, age 89, of Fertile, MN, formerly of rural Bejou, MN, died Friday, November 5, 2010 at Fair Meadow Nursing Home in Fertile.

Tilda Ester Dahl was born at home March 31, 1921, to Ole and Ingeborg (Fliflet) Dahl in Bear Park Township, near Bejou. She grew up there and attended the Oak Grove #58 South School. As a young girl, Tillie helped on the family farm, with the housework, and cared for her ailing mother. She continued this work as she lived with three of her brothers, Arthur, Ralph, and Leonard on the home place. In 1978, following a tornado, they built a new home on the family farm where she continued to live until her brothers deaths. She then moved into Mahnomen, MN, and made her home at the Valley View Apartments until 2005, at which time, Tillie moved into Fair Meadow Nursing Home in Fertile.

Tillie was a dedicated aunt to many. She loved to have her nieces and nephews stop to play after school and would treat them to donuts and sugar cookies. She was known for making bread every week and always had wonderful fresh baked buns. Tillie also had a special place in her heart for all of the barn cats, feeding up to 40 of them whole milk each day. She enjoyed taking Polaroid pictures of her family and later liked to take trips to the Casino. Tillie was a member of the Sons of Norway, Farmers Union and the Bejou American Legion Auxiliary. She was also a strong Democrat. Tillie was a member at Faaberg Lutheran Church and strong in her Lutheran faith.

Tillie is survived by her nieces and nephews: James (Lynne) Dahl, Jerry (Becky) Dahl, Ronnie (Sheryl) Dahl, Lorraine Sweep, Linda Dahl, Sandy Dahl, Don Dahl, Pete (Sandy) Holmvik, Susan (Dale) Bendickson, all of Bejou; Orlan Dahl of Annandale, MN, Roger (Geraldine) Dahl of Mentor, MN, Ervin (Linda) Dahl of Carlos, MN, Darlene (Tim) Bates of Steven, MN, Elaine (Jim) Ireland of Regina, SK, John Roe of Moorhead, MN, Larry (Charlotte) Roe of Apple Valley, MN and Rodney (Sally) Roe of West Fargo, ND; as well as many great nieces and great nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; 4 brothers; and 3 sisters and several infant siblings.


Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at 10:30 am at the Faaberg Lutheran Church in Rindal, MN. Pastor Kelly Ahola was the service leader and Alden Anderson was the organist. Pallbearers were James Dahl, Don Dahl, Jerry Dahl, Roger Dahl, Orlan Dahl, Ervin Dahl, Ronnie Dahl, Pete Holmvik, John Roe, Larry Roe and Rodney Roe. Visitation took place at the Anderson-Mattson Funeral Home on Monday, November 8, 2010 from 5-7 pm with a 6:30 pm prayer service and also one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Burial was in Faaberg Lutheran Cemetery, Rindal, MN.
