Thomas
Wolbeck
Mar 23, 1958 — Aug 3, 2020
Waubun
Thomas Wolbeck, age 62, of Waubun, MN, died unexpectedly, on Monday, August 3, 2020, as a result of an automobile accident.
Thomas "Tom" Wolbeck was born in Ada, MN, on March 23, 1958, to Norbert and Helga (Vik) Wolbeck. He attended grade school in Waubun until 1970, when his family moved to Mahnomen, MN. He then attended high school in Mahnomen graduating with the class of 1977. Tom met Rita Buschette through her brother as he purchased milk from him. The young couple dated while attending college and were married on August 19, 1978. He attended AVTI in East Grand Forks, MN, graduating in 1979. In April of that year, Tom began working at JD Berg Implement in Ada, MN, followed by working for a local farmer, Ron Baker. In 1987, he decided to try his hand at farming and rented some land for the summer. The following year the couple purchased their farm, east of Waubun, and began dairy farming in addition to farming the land. Tom acquired more acres over the years and continued dairy farming until he sold his dairy cattle in 2010, to raise beef cattle instead. Tom continued to farm until 2020 but continued doing what he loved by helping other farmers seasonally.
Tom was a member of the Mahnomen Area Sportsman Club, FSA Board, Oakland Township Board and was active in the St. Joseph's Church and Cemetery Committee. He also served at the Dairy Association malt wagon at the Mahnomen County Fair and always enjoyed sampling new flavors he and his niece developed while working at the booth. Tom also helped annually with breakfast at the farm and looked forward to seeing everyone again the following year. He enjoyed farming, watching TV, playing games on his tablet, coffee with the guys, deer hunting, spending time in the great outdoors, playing cards, spending time with family, especially with Rita doing projects and attending events. Tom loved to make others laugh and was a fun-loving guy who enjoyed life to the fullest. He ended his life doing what he genuinely loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Tom is survived by his wife, Rita; one brother, Jerome (Sharon) Wolbeck of Waubun; three sisters: Beverly (Rodger) Luckow of Mahnomen, Bonnie (Tom) Sobieck of San Diego, CA, and Midge (Larry) Nelson of Lindstrom, MN; one sister-in-law, Linda Wolbeck of Detroit Lakes, MN; several nieces and nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Donald.
