Theresa Johnson, age 96, of Twin Valley, MN, formerly Bemidji, MN, passed away Monday, October 17, 2016, at the Twin Valley Living Center in Twin Valley.
Mary Theresa Donnell was born October 30, 1919, to Louis & Celine Agnes (Thomas) Donnell in rural Waubun, MN. She was the fifth of eight children, six boys and two girls. The family moved to the Beaulieu, MN, area where Theresa attended the Flowing Well School. They later moved to the Red Lake, MN, area where she attended St. Mary's Mission School.
In 1938, Theresa was united in marriage to Joseph Snetsinger in Bemidji, MN. They made their home on Joe's homestead in Heier Township for a short time before moving to the Schermerhorn Farm, east of Mahnomen. In 1947, the family moved to Grand Rapids, MN, and Joe worked in the mines. In addition to tending to the children, Theresa worked a variety of jobs including waitressing, cooking, potato picking, and in a creamery and cannery.
Theresa and Joe divorced in 1956 and Theresa moved to Duluth, MN. She managed the Walgreen's lunch counter and later had her own restaurant. In March of 1960, Theresa married Fred "Fritz" Johnson. They lived many places in Minnesota such as Duluth, Brooklyn Park, Cambridge and St. Cloud to name a few. During retirement, Theresa worked a short time in a group home and they both worked on a golf course. Fritz passed away in June of 1989 and Theresa moved to Bemidji to be closer to family. She entered the Twin Valley Nursing Home in November of 2013.
Theresa was an excellent cook and baker, especially known for her pies. She enjoyed dancing, trips to the casinos and word find books.
Theresa is survived by three daughters: Eunice Bellanger and Gloria Finke, both of Mahnomen, MN, and Virginia Snetsinger of St. Louis, MO; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 14 great- great-grandchildren and one sister, Veronica Hegstrom of Redby, MN.
Theresa was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Joe and Fritz; infant son; six brothers: Peter, Tony, Louis, Frank, Edward and Leonard; three sons-in-law; and many extended family.Saturday
