Obituary

Theodore "Ted" LaGue, age 82, of Naytahwaush, MN, died Tuesday, October 31, 2017.

Theodore LaGue was born on May 23, 1935, to Jerome and Elsie (Nickaboine) LaGue.  He grew up in Elbow Lake village and attended school in Waubun, MN. While growing up, Ted was an outstanding athlete who broke many track records. He was also active in football and basketball. After graduating high school, Ted joined the United States Navy which began his career in the military.  In 1955, Ted married the love of his life, Jeanette and together they were blessed with five sons. Over his 22 years of service with the Navy, the family was stationed at San Diego, CA, Lakehurst, N.J., Norfolk, VA, Patuxent River, MD, and Lisbon Falls, ME.  After honorably serving as an Aviation Structural Mechanic Hydraulics Chief, Ted retired from the Navy in 1976 and returned to Naytahwaush. Perusing his love of the outdoors, he worked for the forestry until retirement.  He was dedicated to the Naytahwaush Community and served in a variety of organizations.  Most notably, Ted worked hard to establish the Naytahwaush Fire Department, where he wore the hat of the Fire Chief.  He was also a first responder with the White Earth Ambulance for many years.

It's no secret that Ted was an amazing man that loved everyone, and was loved by everyone. He had patience, grace, and a quiet yet strong presence that made everyone feel loved and important. He never passed up a chance to show love and respect. Ted loved to spend his time fishing and hunting. He was a Washington Redskins and Minnesota Vikings fan that never missed watching a game. He was also talented woodworker and enjoyed making little wooden vehicles such as old cars, trains, logging trucks, ambulances, and fire trucks.  Ted's was also known for many little things, such how to "hold your mouth just right" while fishing, how to speak Chinese, and giving the best hugs. He never gave a half-hearted hug, whether he knew you his whole life or just met you; he hugged you with all his soul.    Most of all, Ted loved spending time with his family and friends. He will be forever remembered for his warm embraces and loving heart.

Ted is survived by three sons: Gerald LaGue of Naytahwaush, Theodore Jr (Lois) LaGue of Sabattus, ME, and Greg (Sandy) LaGue of Dent, MN; his grandchildren: Kelly (Tony) Greenerier, Greg Jr (Sarah) LaGue, Matt LaGue, Amy (Jordan) Getty, Wade (Ariel) LaGue, Jake (Samantha) LaGue, and Gerrick LaGue; 14 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; his mother-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and two sisters-in-law. He is preceded in death by his wife of nearly 53 years, Jeanette; two sons, James and David; his parents, Jerome and Elise; one brother; and two sisters.
