Thelma Faye Jamison died peacefully on January 22, 2018 at Renewed Spirit Home Care in Maplewood, Minnesota.
Thelma Faye Cain was born January 23, 1930 in New Orleans, LA, the daughter of John Robert and Thelma (Kendall) Cain. In 1933, she moved with her parents, to Presidio, Texas. Three years later, they moved to El Paso. She lived in and near El Paso, except for a brief period during W.W.II, when they were again in New Orleans, while her father was serving in the navy. She graduated from Ysleta High School (Ysleta, TX) in 1947 and attended Texas Western College (now, University of Texas, El Paso) for two years. During her high school and college years, Faye was active in speech and drama, and was a member of the school marching bands. She also wrote for the school newspapers. She was a Past Worthy Advisor of Mt. Franklin chapter of the Order of Rainbow for Girls. At Texas Western, Faye was a member and House President of Delta Gamma Sorority.
Faye was married at First Methodist Church, El Paso, November 13, 1949 to John Wesley Jamison, of Ada, MN., son of Fred and Grace (Smith) Jamison, of Burbank, CA. The newlyweds made their home in Ada, where John farmed in the Ada and Borup areas. In 1958, they moved to Borup where they lived and farmed until John's retirement in 1989. In 1990, they purchased a vacation home on Upper Cormorant Lake, in Becker County, where they spent their summers and returned to their home in Borup for the winters. In 2008, they sold their home in Borup and moved to Ada, where they have lived since that time.
Faye was baptized at First Evangelical Church of New Orleans, LA., confirmed at the Valley Community Church, near Ysleta, TX, and was a member of and married from First Methodist Church of El Paso. After her marriage, she became a member of First Methodist Church of Ada, now a part of Faith United Church. She has been an active member of Faith United Women and the Ruth Circle, where she has held several offices. She has, for several years, been Faith United's Historian. She was a member and Past Matron of Norman Chapter #100, Order of Eastern Star. She was a member and officer of Borup School's P.T.A. and Music Boosters, a member of the Borup Community Club and chairman of the History committee that wrote the history book for Borup's Centennial Celebration in 1988. She was for many years a project and key leader of O B Jolly 4H Club.
Faye was a homemaker whose loves, in addition to her beloved family, included baking, flowers, and quilting. She became the Jamison Family Historian, keeping records of Fred & Grace Jamison's descendants. She loved making cards, cakes, and quilts to commemorate special family occasions.
Faye is survived by her four children – Robert John (Joyce) of Lake Park, MN, William Thomas (Cynthia) of Fargo, ND, Barbara (Jerry) Tiegs of Maple Grove, MN, and Bryan Donald (Janet) of Shoreview, MN; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one brother, William P. Cain(Celeste) of Warroad, MN; one sister, Katherine M. Phelps of El Paso, TX; and several nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John; her parents; and one infant sister, Mary.
Services will be held Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Faith United Church of Ada. Memorials may be made to the Ada Public Library or to Casa de Fe Orphanage (Ecuador), % Cormorant Lutheran Church, Audubon, MN 56511.
