Watch Terry's Funeral Mass

Terry Johnson, age 71 of Mahnomen, MN, died on Sunday, November 14, 2021, at the Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home.

Terry Irene VanOsdel was born on April 8, 1950, in Minneapolis, MN, to Vincent and Marlene (Roy) VanOsdel.  Terry grew up in the metro area where she graduated from high school. Shortly after graduation, Terry furthered her education at the Minneapolis Business College. She met George Aspinwall and together they had a son, Ken. In 1976, Terry reconnected with Thomas Johnson after his honorable discharge from the Army and they were later united in marriage.  Together they made their home in Minneapolis and grew their family with the addition of son, Mitch and daughter, Kelly. Over the years, Terry enjoyed working as a secretary at the theatre for most of her career. She has spent the last several years with her companion, Cliff.  They moved to Mahnomen in 1994, where they have made their home together since.

In her free time, Terry enjoyed being outdoors, especially in the boat fishing and gardening. She loved cooking for loved ones, playing Candy Crush on her phone, and spending time with family. Terry was known for her kind-hearted nature and joyful sense of humor. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Terry is survived by her sons, Ken Aspinwall of Mahnomen and Mitch (Sarah) Johnson of Maple Grove, MN; daughter, Kelly (Josh) Torgerson of Rochester, MN; 10 grandchildren; her companion, Cliff Balentine of Mahnomen; brothers, Gary (Sheila) VanOsdel of Austin, TX, and Vince (Sandy) VanOsdel of Minneapolis; and many nieces and nephews.

Terry was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Roxanne VanOsdel.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Mahnomen, MN. A Time of Gathering will be held one-hour prior.

Following all Covid-19 safety protocols, CDC guidelines will be practiced.
