As a young girl she attended country school near the farm then graduated from Mahnomen High School in 1946. Sylvia attended Concordia College for one year and returned home to Mahnomen. On April 18, 1948, Sylvia was united in marriage to Robert Anderson at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mahnomen. The couple made their home in the Mahnomen community for most of their lives, both in town and nearby on the Anderson Farm. For 23 years, Sylvia worked at the Mahnomen Coast to Coast. Sylvia loved to keep house, garden, sew and was a dedicated mother to their three daughters. A few years ago, Sylvia and Bob moved to Twin Valley, MN, and have most recently lived at The Madison in Detroit Lakes.

Sylvia loved to travel and the couple spent 14 winters in Lake Havasu, AZ. They often traveled around the United States visiting friends and seeing the sites. Sylvia was active with the Mahnomen American Legion Auxiliary and First Lutheran Church. She enjoyed her social groups, especially the Red Hatters, Garden club, and Quilters. She played for many years with her Bridge and Whist card clubs. She was also an avid golfer. Sylvia was a gifted quilter and spent countless hours hand-stitching precious keepsakes for those she loved.
