Susan Ann Johnson, 65, Ada Minnesota, died on Friday, June 27, 2014, in her home surrounded by family, under Hospice care, and serenaded by beautiful hymns.

Susan "Susie" was born March 15, 1949, in rural Twin Valley, MN, to Hilda (Prestegord) Grove and Owen Olson. Family then moved to Silver Bay, MN, where Susie grew up and began the next chapter in her life. She married Robert Burke in 1964 and raised three wonderful sons. In 1974 she moved back to Twin Valley, MN. On October 4, 1975, she was united in marriage to Sheldon "Butch" Johnson. She then became a stepmother of two more wonderful sons and to this union came one daughter. Susie spent most of her days enjoying being a mother, grandmother, and a wife. She added "flair" to anything and everything she touched. She had great passion for decorating and painting. Usually when you visited her she had changed a wall color or rearranged things to make all spaces feel and look beautiful.

Susie and Butch co-managed the Heart of the Valley Golf Course in Ada, for several years. She cooked the meals for leagues and enjoyed getting to know many people whom she called friends. After retirement they traveled to Texas and Arizona for a few winters. Susie enjoyed traveling, and together they traveled all over the U.S. throughout their married life. Susie in later years worked at the group home and DAC in Ada. She took great pride in this position and found this job very rewarding. Susie was a kind-hearted, beautiful soul and loved to laugh and have fun. She was a devoted mother, fun grandma, and an all-around "Sassy" spirited lady!

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 39 years, Sheldon "Butch" Johnson, her sons Mike (Brenda) Burke, Ada; Todd (Leah) Burke, Fertile; Scott (Mary) Burke, West Fargo; step son Mitch (Shelley), Aberdeen SD, and her daughter Shelley (Marc) Gordon, Ada, her father Owen Olson, Hibbing, MN, 20 grandchildren, Jessica (Andrew) Ness, Ada; Justin (Mackinzie) Burke, Ada; Brittany (Blake) Stoltman, Ada ; Brandon Burke, Ada; Kiah Burke, Fargo, ND; Carter Burke, Fertile, MN; Tyra Burke, Fertile MN; Zoe Burke; Hope Burke, West Fargo; Landen Heuer, Madisen Heuer, West Fargo; Nicholas Gordon, Payton Gordon, Macey Gordon, Ada; Brooke Johnson, Boise Idaho; Brittany Johnson, Aberdeen, SD; Colby Merkel, Aberdeen SD; Blake Merkel, Aberdeen, SD; Jeremy Johnson, Wheaton MN; Chad Johnson, Hewitt MN, 5 great grandchildren, Makenna and Bridger Ness, Laila Johnson, Jax Johnson, Adrian Johnson, sisters Gerri (Bruce) Bueng, Valley City ND, Linda Vigesaa, Twin Valley, MN, Amy Olson Siebert, Hibbing MN, Vernice Stalboeger, Hibbing, MN, Cheryl Koskela, Hibbing, MN, Karen Frazier, Crosby, MN, Marcia Betters, Hibbing, MN, brothers Michael (Mary Jo) Olson, Little Falls, MN, David Olson, Carver MN, brother-in-law Raymond Myers, Ada, MN, several cousins, nieces, nephews, and numerous friends whom she thought of as family. Susie was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Hilda and Gerald Grove, step son Jeffrey Johnson, and a sister Eleanor "Ellie" Myers.

Funeral: 11:00AM Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at Zion Lutheran Church, Ada, MN.

Visitation: Tuesday from 5PM to 7PM, with a 7PM prayer service at the church.

Burial: Ada Municipal Cemetery, Ada, MN.
