Obituary

Susan Rae Gunderson, 63, Ada, Minnesota, died Friday, April 29, 2016, at her home.

Susan was born in Crookston, Minnesota on June 15, 1952, and baptized at Bethany Lutheran Church, rural Shelly, Minnesota. Susan was a happy baby, and though physically and cognitively challenged, was carried about by family, relatives, and neighborhood friends until physical ability caught up with her age and walking began. Susan laughed often, joined her parents in "hosting" farming neighbors and relatives at the farm in Good Hope Township, and enjoyed being outdoors with "Toby" and numerous farm cats and chickens. She had a unique ability to connect faces with names, and easily recited names of those in Good Hope township with whom she interacted. Her "family" included farming neighbors, her Bethany Church membership, and ultimately her care givers and residents at REM Homes, in Ada, Minnesota.

Susan was cared for by her parents and siblings from birth until 1980 when her stay at REM Homes began. As a resident for nearly 26 years, she interacted "as family" with all who lived and worked at the facility, accepted assignments at the occupational rehabilitation center…though she didn't care for the "sanding" activity, loved being cared for by former residents of Good Hope Township who worked at REM Homes, sighed openly in joy when those from the Good Hope community came to visit, and toward the end of life appreciated visits from Red River Hospice nurses.

Susan was preceded in death by her grandparents, her parents Raymond and Tallie Gunderson of Ada, Minnesota, and one Sister-in Law, Elaine Larson Gunderson of Colville, Washington. She is survived by four brothers Mark, Larkspur, Colorado, Gene, LaCresent, Minnesota, Loren, Colville, Washington, and Paul, Harvey, North Dakota, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Now, her spirit rests in the bosom of her Heavenly Father as she awaits that glorious Resurrection Day.
