Stuart Burtness, 76, Ulen, MN died Sunday Feb. 17, 2019 in the Viking Manor Nursing Home.

Stuart Ellis Burtness, the only child of Howard and Mildred (Evanson) Burtness, was born February 1, 1943. He was raised on the family farm east of Ulen. Stuart attended school in Ulen graduating with the Class of 1961. While in high school, he was very active with all the sports. After graduation, Stuart worked with his father on the farm and with the cattle operation that he later ended up taking over. He began renting the farm out to Dan Pritchard in 1980, and he continued to live on the farm until 1998 when he moved into Ulen. Stuart has made his home in Ulen since that time and became a resident of Viking Manor Nursing Home for the past few days of his life.

Sports were a true passion for Stuart. He enjoyed both playing and watching them being played. He was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan that never missed watching a game. He also had a sincere appreciation for music and animals. In his spare time, Stuart could be found playing cards, taking casino trips, and helping out at the Senior Center. He was a member of the Lion's club for over twenty years.

Stuart is survived by his long-time friend, Mary Knopfler; Dan Pritchard; Sherrie Francisco; Alicia (Bhaskar) Sharma; Kyle Burdick; Marissa Burdick; Reagan Francisco; Rohit Sharma; Adam Londo; and his dog, Theodore. He is preceded in death by his parents and Mary's daughter, Shelly Burdick.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, February 21, 2019, at 11:00 AM at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Ulen. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Burial will be in the North Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, Ulen.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Stuart's memory to the Ulen Rescue Squad or the Ulen Senior Center.
