Steven Skaurud, age 68, of Twin Valley, MN, passed away on September 25, 2023, at the Mahnomen Health Center in Mahnomen, MN, after a fearless 16 month battle with cancer.

Steven Douglas, the son of Donald and Marion (Logan) Skaurud, was born in Ada, MN on May 31, 1955. He grew up on the family dairy farm near Twin Valley and was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Twin Valley. Steve knew at a very young age he had an interest in cattle. He purchased his first livestock during his senior year of high school and following graduation from Twin Valley High School in 1973, he operated the dairy farm full time. In 1974, he married Kathy Hoff and they were blessed with one son, Justin. Steve resided at the homeplace, making it his own, while working alongside his family. He officially purchased the family dairy farm in the late 1980's, and over the years, transitioned to beef cattle. In 2011, Steve married Lori Eklund and together they built S&L Cattle Co and eventually sold the herd in 2019. Steve kept his hands in the business by custom feeding and pasturing a few head to work with. In addition to farming, he also owned his own semi-truck.  He and his brother, Jeff, continued the family tradition as they jointly owned and operated Skaurud and Son's Trucking Co. Steve always stayed busy and never liked to give up on anything.  He took on a challenge with fierce determination and most often succeeded in his goals. He loved to laugh, joke around, and had a larger-than-life personality yet he maintained a humble attitude and simple lifestyle. In his own quiet way, Steve continually supported the underdog and looked out for the less fortunate. Over the years, Steve was often found helping with community projects, was active at Zion Lutheran Church, and involved in a variety of local organizations, including the Twin Valley Riders Club, Moonshiners Snowmobile Club, Red Angus Association, and Jaycees. He proudly served on several boards, including the Twin Valley/Flom Credit Union, DHI, and the Norman County Soil and Water Conservation District. When he was able to take time off, Steve loved going to the lake, where he was a skilled water skier and enjoyed tubing. He also looked forward to any time spent on the back of a horse, for work or pleasure.  Above all, Steve cherished his family and friends. He simply loved spending time surrounded by those he cared about.

Steven is survived by his wife, Lori of Twin Valley; his son, Justin Skaurud of Moorhead, MN; his father, Donald (Ramona) Skaurud of Twin Valley; brother, Jeffrey (Jackie) Skaurud of Twin Valley; brother-in-law, Michael Eklund; sisters-in-law: Julie (Wayne) Wenner, Karen Fuglie, and Karolyn Eklund; and his nieces and nephews: Gina (Andrew) Seeger, Travis (Kari) Seeger,  Alicia (Mike) Lampton, Nicole (Dennis) Cronin, and Alex Peabody; special family, Dean and Jill Thorsen and Jordan, Carter, and Emma Boman; as well as several great nieces and great nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Marion; two sisters, Peggy Skaurud and Ava Jo Seeger; and a sister-in-law, Valorie Eklund.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 1, 2023, from 2:00 until 4:00pm, with a prayer service beginning at 4:00pm, at the Anderson Family Funeral Home in Twin Valley. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Monday, October 2, 2023, at Zion Lutheran Church in Twin Valley. Burial will take place at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Twin Valley, MN.
