Obituary

Steven Roy Bruggeman, age 54, of Baudette, MN, and former long time resident of Grand Forks, ND, passed away Monday, December 20, 2010 in Grand Forks, ND, with his sons, Joe and Sheldon by his side.

Steve was born August 3, 1956 in Detroit Lakes, MN, the son of Edwin and Barbara (Roy) Bruggeman. He grew up in Mahnomen, MN, where he graduated with the class of 1974. Steve attended Wadena Technical College for Communications. Following his schooling, he worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Rugby, ND. While in Rugby, Steve's two oldest sons were born. He later moved to Grand Forks, ND, where he continued to work for the phone company and there his two younger sons were born. Steve eventually started his own company, Northwest Communications. Most recently, he worked for Qwest in Minneapolis, MN, and spent his time off at his place on Lake of the Woods.

As an avid hunter and fisherman, Steve truly loved the outdoors. Growing up, he spent much of his time at his grandparent's cabin on South Twin Lake near Mahnomen. Anyone who knew Steve has spent time hunting and/or fishing with him.

Steve is survived by his children with Erin Bement: Joe (Kristi Schultz) Bruggeman of Thompson, ND, and Sheldon (Jodi) Bruggeman of Grand Forks, ND; his children with Laurie LaCrosse: Peter Bruggeman and Tyler Bruggeman, both of Grand Forks; three grandchildren: Trey, Shelby and Brynn; his mother, Barbara (Wilbert Miller) Bruggeman of Mahnomen; three sisters: Brenda (Jim) McCauley of East Grand Forks, MN, Sandie (Greg) Rodlund of Durbin, ND and Heidi (Greg) Pavek of Waubun, MN; a special uncle, Paul Roy of Naytahwaush, MN; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who were more like family.

Preceding Steve in death were his father, Edwin Bruggeman; a nephew, Brandon Rodlund; aunts; uncles; grandparents and his beloved dog, Max.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 am on Monday, December 27, 2010 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Mahnomen. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 26, 2010 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm, with a Prayer Service at 3:30 pm at St. Michael's Catholic Church.

Interment will be at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery in Mahnomen.
