On Tuesday, March 8, 2022, the Great Spirit called Stephen Anthony Malinowski home at the age of 71. After a short battle with cancer, he left this world while at home on Big Elbow Lake, surrounded by his loving family. We lost a great husband, stepdad, grandfather, father-in-law, nephew and Vietnam Veteran.

After spending many years in California as a carpenter, Stephen returned to his home state of Minnesota in 1993 with his wife, Barbara. After working for Housing, he worked as a Housekeeping Supervisor at the White Earth Indian Health Services clinic until his retirement.

In addition to his beloved pets, he enjoyed long rides on his Harleys. Stephen would often say, "If it's 37º or warmer, I'm riding my bike to work!"

In his novel The Twelve, author Justin Cronin wrote, "As long as we remember a person, they're not really gone. Their thoughts, their feelings, their memories, they become a part of us." We will remember Stephen with fondness and laughter as we recount his many adventures, including ice fishing, snowmobiling, pull-tabs, and fireworks, oh the fireworks.

Stephen was preceded in death by his mother, LeMay (Boswell) Malinowski; father, Stanley Malinowski; and son-in-law, Sergei Gerasimtchouk. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Barbara (Davis) Malinowski; his children: Regina (Ken) Miller, Randal (Allison) Weaver, and Reneé Gerasimtchouk; an aunt and uncle, Bette Johnson and James Boswell of Detroit Lakes, MN; his grandchildren: Nathaniel Miller, Gillian Miller, Samantha Weaver, and Caroline Weaver; and his beloved pets: Dogs, Nikki and Maya; and his cat, Ruby. Stephen will be greatly missed by all.

In the immortal words of Bob Dylan, " May you always know the truth, And see the light surrounding you, May you always be courageous, Stand upright and be strong, May you stay forever young, May you stay forever young. "
