Moorhead

Obituary

Stephanie Sue Boyum, age 58, of Moorhead, MN, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at her home.

She was born September 8, 1965, in Mahnomen, MN, to Kenneth and Rose Marie (Severson) Boyum. Stephanie graduated from Ada High School in 1984, at which time she moved to Moorhead, MN, to study at Minnesota State University of Moorhead. Stephanie met Tom Desotel in 1985 and they married September 10, 1988. They began their life together in Horace, ND, where they raised their two daughters, Chelsi and Tori. Although Stephanie and Tom eventually divorced, they remained life-long friends. For the last five years, Stephanie again called Moorhead home, but over the past year, she chose to spend a good portion of her time in Bejou, MN, with her dad, siblings, and niece, Rosie.

Stephanie's many hobbies were very hands-on and she will be remembered for her creative nature. Whether home alone or preparing for a gathering with family, she could often be found in the kitchen cooking or baking up a storm. She enjoyed crafting and was known to make holiday decorations, home decor, epic Halloween costumes, etc. In her free time, Stephanie enjoyed traveling, thrifting, trying her hand at the casino, and spending time with her family. More than anything, Stephanie loved being Grandma. There was nothing in the world that she cherished more than her grandchildren.

Stephanie is survived by her father, Kenneth Boyum of Bejou, MN; daughters, Chelsi Desotel (Clinton Zenzius) of Moorhead, and Tori Desotel of Buffalo, ND; grandson, Easton Kortie and granddaughter, Lydia Zenzius; brothers: Henry (Pam) Boyum of Owatonna, MN, Jason Boyum of Bejou, Duane (Tracy) Boyum of Claremont, MN, and William Boyum of McIntosh, MN; sister, Debbie (Bob) Lofgren of Fort Myers, FL; many nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving mother, Rose Marie Boyum; paternal grandparents, Henry and Selma Boyum; and maternal grandparents, Joseph and Miriam Severson.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, October 13, 2023 at Anderson Family Funeral Home in Mahnomen, MN.  A Time of Gathering will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
