Stella G. (Larson) Berhow, 88, of Fertile, MN, died on Saturday, January 14, 2012, at the Riverview Hospital, Crookston, MN. She was born on March 3, 1923, to Amund and Dora (Johnson) Larson in rural Fertile. Stella was baptized and confirmed at Faaberg Lutheran Church, Rindal, MN. She attended Willow Creek Rural School near her home. Following her schooling, Stella helped care for her younger siblings and work on the family farm.
On August 31, 1940, Stella was united in marriage to Clarence Larson at the Faaberg Lutheran Church parsonage, Rindal. They lived in Bear Park, MN, and farmed before moving to Beltrami. They eventually bought a farm north of Beltrami, where they raised their children. Throughout the years, Stella was a busy lady. Along with raising 5 children, Stella did cooking, baking, and serving in many capacities around the area. She was known for her wedding cakes and cooking at the Winter Show in Crookston. For many years, Stella cooked at the Beltrami Mall Café and worked in the kitchen at Fair Meadow Nursing Home, Fertile. In 1975, Clarence died as a result of a farm accident. She met Marvin Berhow and was later married to him on October 12, 1979, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Beltrami. They continued to live at the farm until Marvin passed in 2002, and in 2004, Stella moved to Fertile. She entered the Fair Meadow Nursing Home in January of 2011.
From spring to late fall, Stella kept busy with her "Huge" garden. She would can up to 1000 quarts of produce every year. Her apple pies (she was known to make 50 to 101 pies per year) in the fall were a special memory for those who received them. Embroidery allowed her to keep busy in the later years. Most of all, Stella loved to be with her family. Working together, playing games, or eating with family was what brought Stella the most joy. Her home was always open to everyone and the coffee was always on.
Stella is survived by five children: Laurel (Duane), Ostgarden, Portland, OR; Janice (David) Lamberson, Fertile, MN; Kristy (Mark) Langved, Beltrami; and Kurt (Heidi) Larson, Mentor, MN; one daughter-in-law, June Larson, Moorhead, MN; 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter; and a great-great grandson to be born in February; one brother, Maynard (Elaine) Larson, Fertile; two sisters; Norma Monson, Crookston, MN; and Francis (Wilbur) Gudvangen, Fertile; many nephews, nieces and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, one son, Roger, 1992, brothers, Arthur, Harley and Armen Larson.

Funeral services will be on Thursday, January, 19, 2012, at 11 AM in the Trinity Lutheran Church, Beltrami, MN.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 18, 2012, from 5-7 PM with a Prayer Service at 7 PM in the Trinity Lutheran Church, Beltrami, MN.

Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Beltrami, MN.
