Stanley Howard Samshal, son of Rudolph and Inga (Ramberg) Samshal, was born on March 6, 1936 near Gary, MN. He grew up on the family farm West of Mahnomen and attended Rainbow Country School. As a young man, Stanley farmed with his family as well as helped with neighboring farm chores. On June 30, 1955 Stanley entered the United States Army and proudly served during the Korean Conflict. He was an expert rifleman, stationed for a time in Germany. Upon his honorable discharge in 1957, Stan returned home and began working for area farmers. In 1986, he started helping at Skaurud Grain Farms and continued his employment there for 22 years. Following his retirement, Stanley was able to live at home until the fall of 2010, when he entered the Twin Valley Living Center.

Stanley truly loved the outdoors and had a passion for hunting and fishing. He always looked forward to the fall hunt with family and friends. Stanley was an active member of Rod and Gun Club and the Rough Riders Snowmobile Club. He never turned down the opportunity to sell or buy a raffle ticket or attend a benefit for a worthy cause. He was an honored 50-year member of the Mahnomen American Legion Isaacson-Bjorge Post #31 and was active with Bejou VFW Wild Rice Post #1226. Stanley's generous personality touched countless people and will be remembered in the hearts of many.

Stanley is survived by his sister, Shirley Leines of Moorhead; two nephews, Michael Leines and Terry (Geniece) Leines both of Moorhead; and one niece, Susan Hanson of Olympia, WA.
