Stanley Delmer Roningen, 81, Nielsville, MN, died Thursday, September 17, 2015, at Sanford Health, Fargo, ND.
He was born on October 11, 1933, to Alfred and Esther (Carlson) Roningen in Crookston, MN. Stanley was baptized and confirmed at St. Petri Lutheran Church, Nielsville, where he continued to be an active member. He attended country school near his home and graduated from Climax High School in 1951. Shortly thereafter, he entered the United States Army, serving as a Military Policeman in Japan. Following his honorable discharge, Stanley returned to Nielsville to farm with his family.
Stanley's passion for farming brought him to NDSU to study Soil Science and Agronomy, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1960. He worked for the U.S. Soil Conservation Services in South Dakota before returning to Nielsville to begin a life-long career in farming.
On August 20, 1966, Stanley was united in marriage to Karen Ode at First Lutheran Church, Audubon, MN. They were blessed with one daughter, Patricia. Stanley continued to research, study, and practice farming until he became ill in 2011. He remained involved in farming until late summer of 2015. For many years, Stanley also worked part-time for the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service and as a Township Assessor in Polk County. He served as Chairman of the Hubbard Township Board, as a Trustee of St. Petri Lutheran Church and was also a member of the Hubbard American Legion Post #336 and V.F.W.
Although Stanley was passionate about farming, his heart was with his family. His wife, Karen, and his daughter, Tricia, were the pride of his life. He enjoyed coffee time with friends and driving in the country observing fields. Stanley's life could be summed up with these words: Family, friends, and farming.
