Stanley Fjeld, age 80, of Twin Valley, MN, died Sunday, October 21, 2012 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Stanley Elsworth Fjeld, son of Carl and Gulborg (Martinson) Fjeld, was born at home on October 20, 1932 near Faith, MN, rural Twin Valley. He was baptized and later confirmed his faith at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Faith. As a young boy, Stanley enjoyed the outdoors and helped with the family farm and also worked for many farmers in the area. Stanley attended school in Faith and then Mahnomen, MN, before entering the United States Army where he proudly served his country from 1953 until 1955. Upon his honorable discharge, Stanley moved to Fargo, ND, and worked for an electrical contractor. On August 31, 1957 Stanley was united in marriage to Eleanor Jean Burke at Olivet Lutheran Church in Fargo. Together, the couple moved to Moorhead, MN and Stanley completed his apprenticeship and became licensed journeyman electrician. He was proud to be a lifetime member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union.
Stan and Eleanor spent 17 years in Harwood, ND, before returning to the Twin Valley area in 1982. In 1994, Stanley retired and stayed busy working on his hobby farm and by helping family, neighbors and friends. Stanley was a sportsman who enjoyed fishing and every deer hunting season. He was an outdoorsman who cared deeply about nature and the environment, current events of the world and politics. He always kept a garden and appreciated harvesting home grown fruits and vegetables as well as wild berries. Stanley was proud of his Norwegian heritage and was fluent in the language. He was a loving husband, father, and friend. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Stanley is survived by his wife, Eleanor of Twin Valley; his son, David (Alison) Fjeld of Emerald, WI; one brother, Donald (Laura) Fjeld of Twin Valley; brothers-in-law, Owen Sterton, Richard Norum and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Charles, Clifford, and Norman; and four sisters, Ethel, Mardell, Helen and Gladys.
Funeral Services were held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at St. Olaf Church in Faith. Visitation was held at the church one hour prior to funeral service on Wednesday. Officiating was Pastors John and Kelly Ahola with Alden Anderson serving as organist and Mike Sterton as vocalist. Pallbearers were Dennis Fjeld, Jerry Fjeld, Cliff Fjeld, Jr., Marv Gunderson, Jr., Mike Sterton, Wayne Kroshus and Carl Fjeld. Military Honors were provided by the Twin Valley Nesseth-Lien Post #431 of the American Legion and the MN Army National Guard Honor Guard.
Burial was in St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery, rural Twin Valley.
