Sidney P. Riepe, age 49, of Twin Valley, Minnesota, died Tuesday, February 17, 2009, at his home in a farm accident.
Sidney Paul Riepe was born October 12, 1959, the son of Raymond and Hazel (Smith) Riepe in Ada, Minnesota. Sid was raised on the family farm northwest of town. He attended school in Ada, graduating from the Ada High School with the class of 1978. After graduation, Sid attended and graduated with a two year degree in dairy production from the University of Minnesota at Crookston, while still working with his father on the dairy farm. On April 3, 1982, Sid was united in marriage to Valerie Hoff at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ada. The couple made their home near Ada while Sid continued to work with his father. In 1984, Sid and Val moved to Parkers Prairie, Minnesota, where they were employed as a herdsman couple. In 1985, they moved to Twin Valley where they were employed by the Skaurud dairy farm. In 1994, they bought into the dairy operation and 2001 purchased the farmstead where they currently reside.
Sid not only had a passion for farming, but he also enjoyed demo derbies, bowling, ice racing, hunting for old cars and attending car shows with "the boys".
Sid is survived by his wife of 26 years, Val Riepe of Twin Valley; three lovely daughters, Jessica (Justin Wright-Pedersen) Riepe of Moorhead, Minnesota and Dana and Melissa both at home; brothers, Russell (Jean) Riepe of Rossville, Indiana, Dennis (Sharon) Riepe of Ada, Minnesota, Tom (Shelly) Riepe of Hillsboro, North Dakota and Nathan Riepe of Warroad, Minnesota; a sister, Lisa (Richard) Lewis of Warroad, Minnesota; a grandson, Owen Riepe; a godson, Carston Hamre; mother-in-law, Donna Hoff of Borup, Minnesota and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Funeral services was held at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 21, 2009, in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Ada, Minnesota. Officiating was Fr. Joe DeCrans and Deacon Nick Revier with Bonnie Lee serving as organist, Monica Winter serving as cantor and Karen Bergstrom and Mark Habedank serving as vocalists. Pallbearers were Clayton Hamre, Carl Swenson, Doug Anderson, Jr., Cory Larson, Bobby Brown and Scott Grivno.
Interment was in the West Wild Rice Cemetery, rural Twin Valley, Minnesota.
