Obituary

Sidney Earl Aanenson, 90, Bejou, MN, died Wednesday, October 12, 2011, at First Care Medical Services, Fosston, MN.

Sidney Earl was born March 2, 1921, to Elias and Christina (Aamodt) Aanenson, west of Ada, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at East Marsh River Lutheran Church. As a child he attended country school until the 8th grade. In 1934, Sid moved south of Fertile, where he farmed.

On December 16, 1943, Sid was united in marriage to Muriel Carlson in Ada, MN at the Church Parsonage; they were married for 68 years. In 1953, they purchased a farm in Bear Park Township. He continued to farm as well as raising pigs, sheep, cattle and horses. Sid retired in 1996, but continued to engage with farm activities until he entered the First Care Medical Services, Fosston.

Sid had a quiet, genuine spirit about him. He used the land to provide for his family and do what he enjoyed, growing and nurturing animals. Playing cards with his family, especially partnering with his son-in-law, Ernie, allowed him to spend quality time with family and friends. Travelling in a covered wagon to grandchildren's birthdays in rural Winger, eating lefse and lutefisk, and working with animals always made Sid grin.

Sid is survived by his wife, Muriel, Bejou, MN, four children: Selmer, Bejou, Stanley (Linda), Fertile, MN, Linda (Leonard) Engen, Gary, MN, Barbara Iverson, Winger, MN, one brother: Milo (Eleanor), Fertile, MN, two sisters: Alice Fetting and Doris Alexander, both of Ada, MN, sister-in-law: Orpha Aanenson, Gary, MN, ten grandchildren and twenty-six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two grandchildren: Jamie Aanenson, (January 1, 1977) and Shelly Olson (December 16, 2000), one great-grandson, Andrew Knutson (1985); and one son-in-law, Ernie Iverson.

Funeral Services will be 10:30am, Tuesday, October 18, 2011, at Sundal Lutheran Church, rural Gary, MN.

Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00pm on Monday, with a Prayer Service at 6:30pm at the Erikson-Vik Funeral Home, Fertile, MN.

Burial will be at Sundal Lutheran Cemetery.
