Shirley Gunnufson, age 70, of Twin Valley, MN, died on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at the Twin Valley Living Center, Twin Valley.
Shirley Ann Gunnufson was born on February 8, 1947 to Orville and Florence (Lacke) Vanne in Manitowoc, WI. She was the middle child of the family with an older brother, John; and a younger brother, Orville Jr. Shirley attended grade school at the County Normal School in Manitowoc, and attended high school at Washington High School in Two Rivers, WI. She enjoyed growing up on Lake Michigan where she spent her time horseback riding and on the beach. Shirley was united in marriage to the love of her life, Robert Gunnufson, on March 5, 1966 in Manitowoc. After making their home in Wisconsin for a short while, the couple moved back to Minnesota where they started a family. They were blessed with three sons: Robert Jr, Matt, and James. Shirley worked at various jobs including the Pembina Lounge, the Red Apple, and she retired from the Shooting Star Casino.
Shirley's collection of angels was a great reminder of the bigger significance in life. She enjoyed time spent solving crosswords, reading, and taking trips to the casino. Shirley loved spending time with her family and friends, and never turned down a chance to visit over coffee. She looked forward to her annual picture in the garden that reflected her pride in Bob's hard work. Whether it was a trip to visit family back in Wisconsin, or their yearly road trip to South Dakota, Wyoming, and Montana, or whatever other adventures the road took them on, Shirley truly treasured these trips with Bob. She will be missed by many and live on in their hearts forever.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Robert; two sons, Robert Jr (Cheryl) and James, both of Twin Valley; eight grandchildren: Victoria, Katelyn, Marcus, Amelia, Stephanie, Thomas, Lucas, and Elizabeth; two brothers, John (Mary) Vanne and Orville Jr (Pam) Vanne, both of Two Rivers, WI; and many other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Florence; and one son, Matt.
