Shirley Buschette, age 79, of Mahnomen, MN, died Thursday, March 22, 2018 at Sanford Health, Fargo, ND.

Shirley May Kaste was born February 15, 1939, in Mahnomen County to Emil and Grace (Jaeger) Kaste.  She attended school in Mahnomen until her family moved to East Grand Forks, MN, in 1955.  Prior to moving, while out with friends, Shirley encountered Clarence Buschette and he asked her out on a date.  They immediately hit it off and after a long-distance courtship the two were united in marriage at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in East Grand Forks on October 6, 1956. They were blessed with six children: Rick, Rita, Carol, Gary, Donna, and Amy.  The couple made their home on the family farm with his parents, until taking over the farm in 1957.  Shirley devoted much of her time to be a homemaker and a mother to their children.  When the children were older, she helped with chores on the farm.  Shirley always put others before herself, showing what love and kindness truly meant.  She continually had a bountiful garden with fresh vegetables to last them through the winter.  As a wonderful cook and baker, Shirley truly rejoiced in preparing many homemade meals for her large family and always made sure there was plenty to feed the men helping in the fields.  Shirley had a great love for all children.  Over the years, she babysat for friends, relatives, grandchildren and even her great-grandchildren.  Shirley had many interests including baking, gardening, riding 4-wheeler, reading, playing card games, and doing word search puzzles.  However, her most important pastime was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  During her retirement years, Shirley also enjoyed cooking for special events with her daughters and friends.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 61 years, Clarence; six children: Rick (Linda) Buschette of Mahnomen, MN, Rita (Tom) Wolbeck of Waubun, MN, Carol (Larry) Olson of Twin Valley, MN, Gary (Mary) Buschette of Sioux Falls, SD, Donna (Lee) Radtke of Bejou, MN, and Amy (Tony) Amberg of Twin Valley, MN; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elaine (Dan) Kratochvil and Mary Baird; two brothers, Ervin and Earl (Terry) Kaste; one sister-in-law, Betty (Dallas) Erickson; brother-in-law, Arnie (Lou) Cariveau. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Jane Martin and Yvonne Cariveau; one brother, Marvin Kaste and several brothers and sisters-in-law.

A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, April 6, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Mahnomen, MN.  A Time of Gathering will take place one hour prior to the service at the church.
