Shirley Belland, age 75, of Waubun, MN, died Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at Sanford Health, Fargo, ND.
Shirley Ann Belland was born April 21, 1942, in White Earth, MN, to Florence and Leslie Belland. Growing up she attended the White Earth Mission School and later Waubun High School. Shirley married Spencer Fairbanks and together they had five children. They later divorced and Shirley met her soul mate, James Jackson. The couple lived in Detroit Lakes, MN, before moving to Waubun in 1993. Shirley and Jim have made their home together in Waubun ever since. Shirley began working in housekeeping at the Shooting Star Casino and later was hired by Congregate Housing. She became the Housekeeping Manager and retired in 2013 after 17 years of dedicated employment.
Shirley enjoyed being with family and spending her summers at Heart Lake. She also liked playing Bingo, watching National Geographic and Animal Kingdom, and sewing. Shirley belonged to a sewing club and she made many beautiful projects over the years. She also loved to collect trinkets and knick knacks, mostly Native American arts, and Indian dolls. Shirley had a special place in her heart for her canine companion, "Tiny".
Shirley is survived by two daughters, Brenda and Teri Fairbanks, both of Naytahwaush, MN; several grandchildren; sister, Ruby Weaver; brother, Orville Belland, both of White Earth, MN; her significant other of 30 years, James Jackson, Waubun, MN; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Kenny and Doug; daughter, Donna; granddaughter, Natasha; two brothers, Larry and Leslie Belland; one sister, Jeanette Bush; and many extended family.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, Sept 11, 2017, at the Naytahwaush Sports Complex in Naytahwaush, MN. Visitation will take place on Sunday, September 10, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, with a Prayer Service beginning at 7:00 pm also at the Naytahwaush Sports Complex. Burial will be in St. Anne's Catholic Cemetery.
