Sherman Qual, age 81, of Mahnomen, MN, died on Tuesday, September 29, 2015, at Mahnomen Heath Center Nursing Home in Mahnomen, MN.
Sherman Milo Qual was born November 11, 1933, in Mahnomen, MN, the only son of Selmer and Clara (Aamoth) Qual. He grew up on a farm and graduated from Mahnomen High School. After graduation, Sherman farmed with his parents until he married Sandra Adolphsen on April 11, 1964, in Villard, MN. Together they raised four children. He continued to farm, later working for Mahnomen Concrete. In 1977, they rented their land to Bursch Farms and he went to work for them for almost 15 years. He went to work at the Shooting Star Casino for about five years before retiring. After retiring, he continued to help his dear friends, Dale and Shel Pazdernik, during the busy farm seasons for 15 years.
Sherman enjoyed Mahnomen football, especially when his sons played in state championship games and watching sports in general. He and Sandy enjoyed camping and the many friendships out at Pinehurst Resort for over 15 years. They could always round up some friends for some card games and fun, especially DIMER or Bean Bags. He also enjoyed some great times fishing on North Twin where he had a knack for catching the biggest fish. Sherman loved his children, his grandchildren, and as he aged, he always had his dogs by his side. After Sandra passed away in 2007, Sherman moved to Mora with his son Randy for a few years. He missed his home and friends in Mahnomen, however, and wanted to return there. He enjoyed life at Valley View Commons for many years before entering the Mahnomen Nursing Home. Sherman was very social, loved to visit, was a jokester, but often told you his opinion.
Sherman is survived by his sons, Michael (Shari), Todd, and Randy (Darcy) and his seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Sandra, his parents, Selmer and Clara, his daughter, Terri, two sisters, Carla and Hazel, and infant granddaughter, Ashay. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
A memorial service was held Friday, October 16, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Mahnomen, Minnesota.
